The Common Carp |
Cypriniformes gets its name from the largest family in the order, the carps. The carp family has about 1600 species. The other families are the characin-piranhas and the electric eels of central and south america. Cyrpiniforme fishes are toothless and have cycloid scales.
The common carp is native to Asia and has been introduced to most other parts of the world. They are an invasive species so they are widely regarded as pests. Their wild populations are considered vulnerable to extinction.
