Gonorynchiformes VS. Tetraodontiformes
Similarities:
-both have no teeth (tetraodontiformes have a beak that is divided into something similar like "teeth") -Both have defense systems. Gonorynchiformes produce a substance from their skin when injured that dissolves into the water and acts an alarm signal to other fish. Tetraodontiformes have scales modified into strong plates or spines or have tough, leathery skin. Some (like the pufferfish) have the ability to inflate themselves. Many species also have a deadly neurotoxin. - Both are found in marine areas and in freshwater areas |
Differences:
- Gonorynchifomres have 4 families (Chanidae, Gonorynchidae Kneriidae, Phractolaemidae) while Tetraodontiformes have 10 (Aracanidae, Balistidae, Diodontidae, Molidae, Monacanthidae, Ostraciidae, Tetraodontidae, Triacanthidae, Triacanthodidae, Triodontidae) - Tetraodontiformes have highly modified skeletons - Gonorynchiformes have primitive weberian apparatus used for hearing |
