Tetraodontiformes is an order of ray finned fish, also known as Plectognathi. Although a few species are found in freshwater streams, most are marine and can be found in and around tropical coral reefs. The tetraodontiforms make up about 5 percent of the tropical marine fishes of the world. They mostly range from 3 inches to 24 inches. Unlike other fishes, their bodies are relatively inflexible; they can be either square, triangular, spherical or laterally compressed. Included are the triggerfishes, puffers, filefishes, and porcupine fishes. Many species have poisonous flesh - for example, pufferfish.
